Unknown Mortal Orchestra 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Unknown Mortal Orchestra is back on track for its best era yet, releasing a new single and tour dates for 2023! Catch the psychedelic rock band beginning March 20th in Spokane, WA, with stops in Seattle, WA, Phoenix, AZ, Chicago, IL, and more before finishing up on April 22nd in Boston, MA.
This will be the first post-pandemic Unknown Mortal Orchestra tour, plus a celebration of their upcoming double album, and they’re not going to let anything get in their way! The band’s new single, “I Killed Captain Hook,” is just as catchy as you’d expect and comes with a visually-appealing music video and a catchy backstory to boot. Plus, an appearance from guitarist Ruban Neilson’s mother, which is just as adorable as you’d expect.
According to a release, the track “is told from the perspective of the Hawaiian that killed Captain James Cook, the English explorer largely responsible for the colonization of Polynesia.” He “attempted to kidnap Hawaiian chief Kalaniʻōpuʻu, and eventually met his demise in Hawai’i as a result,” they continued, before stating that it was a childhood favorite of Neilson’s that he intended to be a tribute song to his mother. Aw! This song joins other new favorites, like last year’s standalone singles “Weekend Run” and “That Life,” all of which will make great additions to their double album.
It’s been four long years since Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their last record, IC-01 Hanoi, and fans have patiently waited for their sixth one to come to life. While they’ve remained mostly quiet about their upcoming project’s release date, artwork, and themes, it’s safe to assume it will be out before they head out on tour!
