Michael Franti & Spearhead 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

Michael Franti & Spearhead are heading on the Follow Your Heart tour this spring, and it’s an appropriately-named tour for the activist and hip hop-funk-reggae icon. The trek begins on May 14th in Redondo Beach, CA, and goes on through August 7th in Gunnison, CO. 

“SOULROCKERS, WE CAN’T WAIT to be back on the road with you this year!!!,” Franti wrote on Instagram. “The FOLLOW YOUR HEART tour is about listening to the voice inside you, being your authentic self, and building community, so together we can let go, dance, celebrate life, hit the reset button, and walk out feeling a little bit taller!”

Good friends, funk beats, and staying true to yourself through the power of song? It’s what Michael Franti & Spearhead have done since their formation in the late 1980s, and this optimism has been essential throughout the past couple of years. The group released their eleventh album, Work Hard & Be Nice, in June 2020, shortly after the pandemic surged. And it served 17 tracks that could be considered a love letter to fans and front-line workers. 

“When I started thinking about that mantra, [Work Hard & Be Nice,] I thought, ‘That’d be a really great song title,’” Franti told American Songwriter in 2020. Right now, this message is so important for the world. We see so much division out there, whether it’s political or religious or around sexuality or gender identity or race ─ all these ways of dividing people.”

“Yet one thing COVID-19 has shown is we all go through the same sh**,” he continued. “No one is immune from suffering… or the simple joys we enjoy.” These simple joys came in the form of hopeful lyrics over Franti’s trademark blend of hip-hop, reggae, and ska beats, and you can expect to hear all the new songs on this Michael Franti tour. Along with older favorites like “Say Hey,” “The Sound of Sunshine,” and “I’m Alive,” of course.
