Lake Street Dive 2027 Tour Announcement – What About Flamingos? Tour Schedule
Lake Street Dive are bringing a new set of songs on the road in 2027. The “What About Flamingos? Tour” kicks off Feb. 26 in Waukee, Iowa, just one week after the band releases its ninth studio album of the same name. From there, they’ll head to Omaha, St. Louis, Memphis, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit and more before wrapping March 21 in Peoria, Illinois. Philadelphia funk band SNACKTIME will open most dates, while the March 6 Greenville show gets the full “Evening With Lake Street Dive” treatment.
“When we set out to record this album, our focus was simple: to play live in a room together – human and alive and perfect in its imperfection,” Lake Street Dive said in the tour announcement. “We arrived without knowing what songs the others had been writing, with an open invitation to bring anything to the session. Each of us brought our own stories, loves, losses and philosophies. As the album came together, a common thread.”
Basically, we’re getting the same chemistry that comes together during a Lake Street Dive concert, but through our Airpods instead. And we’re all for it. You really have to earn the title of “multi-genre band” on Wikipedia — weird, unrestrictive, non-genre-bending in a way that makes headlines — but Lake Street Dive always lives up to their online reputation. Songs like “Hypotheticals,” “Better Than,” and “Good Kisser” have already proved it….
And now these new songs are making things even more unorthodox, in the best way. The 12-song album marks the band’s first release through their own Dive Not Drive Records, with “You’re Never Around” and the wonderfully specific title track already giving fans a preview. Other songs include “Vegas Mattress,” “My Own Damn Way,” “Baby Talk” and “Gertrude” featuring Huntertones.
As for the flamingos? Bassist Bridget Kearney landed on the phrase while thinking about how many genuinely bizarre, beautiful things exist in the world that we barely stop to notice. Flamingos are an extreme example, but you’ve probably seen a dog on a skateboard or something while you were late for work, and not taken the time to soak it in. That’s what this record aims to prevent, and the good vibes will be flowing nonstop both on the record and live at the show.
That weird streak has been part of Lake Street Dive from the beginning. The group formed at Boston’s New England Conservatory in 2004, initially describing its sound as “avant-garde honky-tonk” before realizing that jazz, soul, pop, folk and funk could all coexist without anybody needing to pick just one genre. Their street-corner cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” went viral in 2012, and albums like Bad Self Portraits, Side Pony, Obviously and Good Together pushed them far beyond music-school obscurity.
