Dance Gavin Dance 2022 Tour Announcement – An Evening With Friends Tour Schedule
A new Dance Gavin Dance tour has been announced in support of their upcoming album, Jackpot Juicer. Dubbed “An Evening with Friends tour,” the experimental rock veterans will kick off on July 26th in Los Angeles, CA, and continue through August 24th in San Francisco, CA.
“We are very pleased to announce our exciting & intimate headlining tour, ‘An Evening With Friends,” drummer Matt Mingus said in a statement. “Last month, unfortunately, and not by our choice, we were made aware that we could not perform on the summer tour we had been looking forward to for the past year.” He continued, “We were lucky enough to get the support from our partners to help curate a last-minute headline tour hitting most of the cities we already planned on performing in.”
Indeed, it’s been a devastating few months for Dance Gavin Dance. Their bassist, Tim Feerick, passed away in April 2022, while in June, they were removed from the Coheed and Cambria tour after ex-vocalist Tillian Pearson faced disturbing allegations. The band promptly removed him from the lineup and planned to host their own intimate headlining tour with guitarist Andrew Wells taking over vocals.
They tweeted that it’s “unlikely that you will ever see a DGD lineup like this again and in these intimate venues,” and it’s undoubtedly true. The veteran rockers don’t typically play cozy venues like Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood and various House of Blues locations… but this isn’t your typical Dance Gavin Dance tour. They’re celebrating Jackpot Juicer and a new era for the band, and you’ll want to get your spot up close in the pit at these concerts.
It won’t be easy to follow up their ninth album, 2020’s Afterburner. The album peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums list, a first for Dance Gavin Dance, while critics applauded the group’s musical transition. Kill Your Stereo wrote that the new music was “intricate, catchy, emotional and deceptively complex,” while Scene Daddy wrote that Afterburner was “the best record of Dance Gavin Dance’s career.” All this being said, Jackpot Juicer might give the record a run for its money.
