Belle and Sebastian 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Belle and Sebastian are back with a new album and new tour, and it’s never been a better time to see the indie-pop darlings. They’ll kick off the trek on May 24th in Asheville, NC, with 20 US shows before the final performance in Boston, MA, on June 18th.
The band’s upcoming eleventh studio album, A Bit of Previous, will be released in May 2022. It marks their first record in seven years, not counting the 2019 Days of the Bagnold Summer soundtrack, and is near and dear to Belle and Sebastian’s heart. The group recorded in their hometown of Glasgow and found a sense of togetherness in the depths of quarantine.
“We did it together, us and the city,” singer Stuart Murdoch wrote in the album’s liner notes. “This record was the first ‘full’ LP recording for B&S in Glasgow since Fold Your Hands Child, 1999. We clocked in every morning, we played our songs, we wrote together, we tried new things, we took the proverbial lump of clay, and we threw it every day.”
Several new singles have already been released, including the power-pop bop “Unnecessary Drama.” The song features the harmonica solos and indie-pop vibes that you’ve come to expect from Belle and Sebastian, with the added pressure of the pandemic that creates mega-relatable musical harmonies.
“The song is about a young person experimenting in being a human again after a forced hiatus,” says Murdoch. “The person is weighing up whether or not it’s worth the mess! Still, you dip your toe in and it becomes delicious, and you get too much of it. Between trouble and nothing, we still choose the trouble.” If that isn’t a perfect summary for post-pandemic life, we don’t know what is! “Unnecessary Drama” is just the beginning of the indie-pop essentials you’ll get from Belle and Sebastian in 2022, and you can hear them all firsthand on the upcoming tour.
