The Mars Volta 2022 Tour Announcement – Reunion Tour Schedule
The Mars Volta has announced a reunion tour for fall 2022, taking the progressive rock duo to 13 cities. They’ll kick off on September 22nd in Dallas, TX, and continue through October 23rd in Los Angeles, CA.
The group is picking up right where they left off one decade after the last The Mars Volta tour and album. Their reunion tour will feature all your favorite songs from their six albums, including “The Widow,” “Drunkship of Lanterns,” and “Roulette Dares,” plus their all-new single. “Blacklight Shine” is a typical The Mars Volta track that you know and love, featuring a quaking groove, psychedelic chorus, and upbeat-yet-easy vibe. When you consider that the music video is a complete 11-minute-long short movie for theatricality, in true The Mars Volta fashion, it hits you that the band is indeed back.
Loudwire describes the new single as a “poppy, Latin-influenced, percussion-heavy number that finds singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala dipping into Spanish.” Do the late 2010s and 2020s inspire this “poppy” sound? Plenty has changed since The Mars Volta went on hiatus in 2012, with fewer rock bands gracing the charts and more pop superstars and DJs. Of course, they’ll never fully let go of their progressive rock sound of the past two decades, but what does this mean for the future? You’ll have to attend The Mars Volt tour and find out.
The group’s legacy speaks for itself, serving as prog-rock pioneers of the 2000s and inspiring artists like Mastodon, As I Lay Dying, and even Lizzo. So it’s safe to wonder if you’ll be seeing some famous faces in the crowd at your local show. As for what you won’t be getting on this comeback The Mars Volta tour? Bandmates Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez have made that very clear. “What it’s NOT going to be is your ‘fav member lineup’ playing their ‘classic records’ in full etc.,” they wrote in now-deleted tweets. “Maybe we’ll play old sh*t; who knows how we feel. … It’s new sh*t, new people, left turns, tangent inconsistencies, mazapan dreams, and churro wishes.”
All we have to say to that is… sign us up! We’re not entirely sure what we’ll be getting on the first The Mars Volta tour in ten years, but it’s definitely going to be a night to remember. Get your The Mars Volta tickets now!
