The Mavericks 2026 Tour Announcement – The Music Lives On Tour Schedule
The Mavericks are returning to the road in 2026, but this tour comes with a weight that’s impossible to ignore. Following the death of longtime frontman Raul Malo in December 2025, the band has announced “The Music Lives On Tour,” a run meant to honor the songs, voice, and legacy of the man who helped define them for more than three decades.
Beginning on July 17 in Kansas City, MO, and continuing through November 15, the trek will feature guest vocalists James Otto and Emily West. Meanwhile, founding member Robert Reynolds is also returning to join Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez, and Jerry Dale McFadden onstage. There’s no replacement happening here, just remembrance of Malo’s rich baritone….
Which will be honored night after night. His vocals were always the center of The Mavericks — romantic, theatrical, and endlessly versatile. He could take country, Tex-Mex, rockabilly, Latin pop, and old-school crooner energy and somehow make it all sound like the same language. Songs like “Dance the Night Away,” “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,” and “Here Comes the Rain” worked because they were not only catchy, but also a communal experience.
And needless to say, this tour will be emotional for all those lucky enough to attend. James Otto and Emily West both performed during the band’s Ryman Auditorium tribute shows for Malo, where they clearly made enough of an impression to be trusted with this next chapter. Otto brings a more country-soul presence, while West has the kind of theatrical vocal power that makes sense for a band this dramatic.
Again, no one is stepping into Malo’s shoes. But they’re helping keep the songs alive in front of the people who still need to hear them. This band has always existed slightly outside the rules — too Latin for straight country, too country for pop, too polished for garage rock, too weird to fit neatly anywhere — and it’s exactly the legacy that Malo is leaving behind.
