Motion City Soundtrack 2022 Tour Announcement – Commit This to Memory 15th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Motion City Soundtrack still has a handful of shows left on their “Commit This to Memory 17th Anniversary Tour,” with the pop-punk band hitting eight cities in September 2022. They’ll begin on the 2nd in New Orleans, LA, with stops in Houston, TX, Fort Wayne, IN, Albany, NY, and more before concluding on the 14th in New Haven, CT.
This Motion City Soundtrack tour has been rescheduled twice due to the pandemic. The band has joked about it on Instagram, stating that they celebrated 15, then 16, and now 17 years of their 2005 album. Commit This to Memory is a record that any emo kid will remember, with the lead single “Everything is Alright” serving as the song on millions of MySpace profiles. Add in the fact that it was produced by Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and earned them a standing reservation on the headlining stage at Warped Tour, and it’s become a pop-punk classic.
Commit This to Memory was also way before its time, openly talking about lead singer Justin Pierre’s struggles with mental health and making fans feel less alone. Don’t let the bouncy and breezy choruses fool you, as these lyrics were downright dark. Louder spoke to the record in 2020 when the band was supposed to kick off this Motion City Soundtrack tour, claiming that they “forced pop-punk to grow up.”
“As a collection of music, it’s largely conflicted. Lyrics are cloaked in self-deprecation, speaking to experiences singer Justin Pierre had with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse,” the publication wrote, “while musically they’re set to walls of sugary, breezy pop-punk.” “Still, within that conflict, MCS drew in an audience,” they continued, “For a number of teens coming of age around the mid-2000s, Commit This To Memory would become an essential document of their formative years – a rite of passage for the young and unsteady.”
Fans clad in scene hair and copious amounts of black eyeliner flocked to see the band in 2005 and continued to do so for the decade-plus afterward. The legacy of Commit This to Memory has resulted in legions of longtime fans who have followed them in the four albums since, the latest being 2015’s Panic Stations. They’re forever grateful for Motion City Soundtrack’s role in their playlists and mental health recovery, and they’ll get a dose of nostalgia on this anniversary tour.
