The Elf on the Shelf: The Musical in Theater, 2021 Performance Schedule
The “Elf on the Shelf” is a Christmas tradition almost as famous as Santa Clause himself, and it’s coming to life (pun intended) with one of the best holiday musicals for the entire family! Watch as a “Scout Elf” named Tater Tot is sent from the North Pole to his new adopted family, a set of unseasonal humans who have forgotten the meaning of Christmas. How can he get off the shelf and into their hearts? You’ll have to see this moving and magical show in cities like Brooklyn, NY, St. Louis, MO, Davenport, IA, and more!
You’ve likely seen the “elf on the shelf” in your loved one’s homes during the holidays, a doll that sits on the mantle overlooking the family. But did you know the origin of this festive object? It’s based on the 2005 children’s book by Carol Aebersold, which shares how the doll keeps an eye on the children throughout December.
Closer to Christmas, the “elf on the shelf” comes to life while the children are sleeping and heads back to the North Pole to report back to St. Nick about whether they’ve been naughty or nice. It’s a little spooky but mostly a sweet and seasonal treat! But it’s not always an easy job for the Scout Elf, which is explored in the plot of Elf on the Shelf: The Musical.
Tater Tot is the valedictorian of his Scout Elf class and has become a master at making kids nice as he sits on their mantle. However, things change when he’s sent to a family of skeptics – who don’t believe in the power of Christmas and think elves’ magic is nothing but a myth. What ensues is a story that gives you major Elf vibes, with even more emotions and moving holiday messages involved.

Of course, don’t think that it’s not also a fun and fabulous holiday spectacle. The stage design is as colorful and Christmas-y as you’d expect, transitioning from the North Pole to the unseasonal family home without losing its holiday spirit. And then there are the musical numbers, belted by classically-trained vocalists as you internally sing along with these familiar Christmas tunes.
“Elf on the Shelf” is a holiday tradition that’s found in both your home and your heart, and now it’s making its way to a theater near you. See this breathtaking musical that spreads love, joy, hope, and holiday cheer, currently playing in the following cities!
