Wicked, The Musical in Theater – 2021-2023 Tour Schedule
The Emerald City is coming to a stage near you, and you can’t miss your chance to see Wicked. This iconic musical about a misunderstood witch will return to New York City on September 14th as Broadway reopens, along with tours in other cities like Dallas, TX, Cincinnati, OH, Boston, MA, Miami, FL, and many more.
Wicked has been bringing emerald vibes to “The Great White Way” since 2003, earning a permanent home at the Gershwin Theatre and becoming the second-highest-grossing Broadway show of all time (only behind The Lion King). Wicked performances now take place across the country, bringing this prequel to The Wizard of Oz into the hearts of millions.
Fans were devastated when the COVID-19 pandemic forced Wicked and the rest of the theatre community to shut their doors. The good news? These shows are making a comeback in fall 2021 and continuing through 2023. You can now see Wicked as early as August in Dallas, TX, while most other cities (besides New York City) will begin Wicked performances in October and November.
Wicked’s legacy is everlasting. This Tony-winning Broadway show helped to define the careers of Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth when they originated the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. At the same time, the smash belt numbers are loved by theatre kids everywhere. Between “Defying Gravity,” “No Good Deed,” “Popular,” and “For Good,” these Broadway hits sound even better on the stage than they do in your favorite piano bar.
Wicked is a relatable story about an underdog. You may know the green-faced Elphaba as “The Wicked Witch of the West,” while Glinda is the “good witch,” but Wicked tells the origin story of how both women earned these names. You could call it a “reverse trip” down the yellow brick road.
How did the villain from The Wizard of Oz go from a bright and kind, but misunderstood, green-skinned girl to the most hated woman in Emerald City? Wicked fills in all the blanks – from the Wizard’s rise to power to the origin of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. You’ll also get an inside look at Elphaba and Glinda’s complicated friendship, in which they belt out powerful hits throughout the show while dealing with opposing personalities, a shared love interest, and the increasingly corrupt government in Oz.
Wicked is returning to the stage, and this is a smash Broadway show that everybody needs to see in their lifetime. Whether you’re making a trip to New York City or watching the show from your hometown stage, this will be an unforgettable visit to the Emerald City.
