Pretty Woman: The Musical is coming to a city near you in 2022 – a modern and melodic take on the 1990 film of the same name. It’s a story that was well ahead of its time, a fairy tale about a sex worker and wealthy businessman who fall for each other. And when you add catchy musical numbers to the mix, it only makes Pretty Woman more iconic. 

Pretty Woman: The Musical is playing in many US cities through August 2022, including Cleveland, OH, Portland, OR, San Diego, CA, Denver, CO, and more. It also makes a stop at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA, this summer, the same city where businessman Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) met prostitute Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) over thirty years ago.  

Those who have watched the iconic 90s romantic comedy know the plot. Vivian is hired by Edward to be his date to a series of social functions for a week. And in return, she gets wined and dined. She has a fancy hotel room and shopping allowance that she can’t wait to spend, until she’s turned away by a snooty saleswoman who reminds her that she’s still a sex worker. Some believe that the film hasn’t aged well at all, while others consider it a feminist classic. It’s likely that we’ll see both of these people in the crowd at Pretty Woman: The Musical. 

Edward and Vivian’s unconventional love story is told along with a brand-new soundtrack by Canadian superstar Bryan Adams. Director Jerry Mitchell said that the songs had a “feel of late ’80s-early ’90s rock,” which fits with the undeniably 90s vibe that most people associate with Pretty Woman. You’ll also get greater insight into Edward and Vivian’s mindset with these uptempo hits, and still be awed by the show no matter how many times you’ve rewatched the film.
