Those who have watched the film on repeat for two decades know the backstory of Elf The Musical. It details how Santa Clause brought a human baby named Buddy home to the North Pole and helped raise him amongst the elves. Of course, Buddy always knew he was unlike everybody else… and upon finding out the truth, he makes the trek to New York City to find his real father. What ensues is a mix of memorable quotes, holiday spirit, and belly laughs that will follow you all the way through the holidays.
Elf The Musical follows the film pretty closely, adding a few technological twists. Santa Clause reads his “naughty or nice” list on an iPhone, Buddy makes a scene at Macy’s instead of Gimbels, and the timeline is altered so that Buddy can be much younger or older than the Will Ferrell version. And then there are the musical numbers that will have you feeling as excitable as Buddy himself.
“Sparklejollytwinklejingley,” is a song you’ll want to look out for, showing off Buddy’s infectious holiday spirit that spreads all the way to the back row of the theatre. There’s also “I’ll Believe In You,” “Nobody Cares About Santa,” and “Just Like Him,” which display Buddy’s desire to fit in with the humans without abandoning his elf roots.
