Annie, in Theater – 2022-2023 Performance Schedule
“It’s a hard knock life for us!” The hit song from Annie has been performed in many high school musicals and Broadway productions, and it’s easy to see why. It’s incredibly catchy and accompanies a heartwarming show about a beloved redheaded orphan hoping to find her forever family. She faces a few bumps along the way, but you get to watch her journey right from the comfort of your theater seat.
Annie first debuted on Broadway in the late 1970s and won multiple Tony Awards, including “Best Musical.” While it hasn’t been on the Great White Way in some time, you can still see the show in many other cities throughout the rest of the year! This includes Syracuse, NY, Philadelphia, PA, and Durham, NC, in October, along with West Coast locations like Los Angeles, CA, and Las Vegas, NV, later in 2022.
The story occurs in New York City in 1933, where an eleven-year-old named Annie resides in an orphanage. She dreams of escaping to find her parents, only to be blocked by her cruel keeper Miss Hannigan and others who wish to befriend her for the wrong reasons. At least she has her beloved dog, Sandy, and friends at the orphanage on her side! Multiple catchy numbers occur throughout the show, including the previously-mentioned “It’s A Hard Knock Knock Life,” detailing the poor conditions of the orphanage, and “Tomorrow,” explaining how Annie will one day have it all.
Spoiler alert: she will have her happy ending, but it takes roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes (plus one intermission) to get there. She’s a fiery little girl, both lookswise and due to personality, that won’t settle until she gets what she deserves. And you’ll have fun with the whole family taking in the classic story of orphan Annie. Get your tickets today!
