The quintet has been performing since May, giving fans of the Grateful Dead cover band a summer they’ll never forget! The group comprises veteran musicians like Joe Russo of Furthur and Dave Dreiwitz of Ween, who infuse their own musical style into their passion for playing Grateful Dead’s biggest hits. 

“Anyone who has seen or heard the Grateful Dead-inspired quintet knows that the ensemble goes far beyond the simple chord progressions of the jam forefathers,” Live For Live Music wrote about Joe Russo’s Almost Dead in September. “Rather than acting as a band playing Grateful Dead covers that evolve into jams, JRAD freely improvises until those off-the-cuff musical journeys take the form of a familiar Dead tune.”

In other words, you can still expect to hear covers of “Touch of Grey,” “Playing in the Band,” “Truckin’,” and “Friend of the Devil” at your Joe Russo’s Almost Dead concert… but in a unique form.
