The Shins 2022 Tour Announcement – Oh, Inverted World Tour Schedule
The Shins are excited to announce their Oh, Inverted World 21st Birthday tour, celebrating their debut album in the best way they know how. Catch the indie-rock outfit beginning July 12th in San Francisco, CA, with shows continuing through September 16th in Portland, OR.
“This summer, Oh, Inverted World is finally old enough to party,” The Shins wrote on Twitter. “So, we are taking it out on the road for The 21st Birthday Tour!” It’s always bittersweet to watch your baby grow up, but James Mercer and his bandmates intend to do justice to their debut album. They’ll play Oh, Inverted World in its entirety, including hits like “New Slang,” “Know Your Onion!,” and “Caring is Creepy,” along with more tracks from the past two decades.
The Shins have accomplished quite a bit since their debut in 2001. They’ve released four new albums, the most recent being 2017’s Heartworms, and even earned a Grammy nomination for 2007’s Wincing the Night Away. They’re an indie rock band that doesn’t mind being in the spotlight, and you can experience their journey from front to back on the Oh, Inverted World tour.
How does The Shins feel about the album that made them famous? It’s complicated and a little bit quirky in true James Mercer fashion. When speaking to the University of San Francisco’s student newspaper back in 2003, he gave an interesting response to whether he was happy with how the album came out.
“As far as how it sounds, no. I don’t know; it was okay. I mean, there are a lot of records that sound more perfect, or close to perfect,” said Mercer. However, it was perfect in the eyes of the fans who have been blasting it for the past 21 years! The record meant a lot to many people, all of whom will be flocking to see the record played in its entirety on The Shins tour.
