The Chicks 2026 Tour Announcement – Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour Schedule
The Chicks are the latest group to host an anniversary tour in 2026…and this one’s going to be a doozy. The 13-time Grammy-winning trio has announced the “Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour,” a special theater run celebrating their landmark 2006 album. The tour kicks off September 30 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, MI, before heading to Chicago, Washington, DC, New York, Nashville, San Antonio, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and more. They’ll wrap things up with two nights at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on November 1 and 2.
For those who remember, Taking the Long Way was a very symbolic record for the Chicks. It was released after they were basically pushed out of country music’s inner circle for speaking their minds, and instead of shrinking themselves down, they came back with one of the most defiant albums of their career. If not music in general. “Not Ready to Make Nice” became the “sorry not sorry” track of a generation, and it’s going to appear even louder and prouder on the 2026 The Chicks tour.
Because 20 years later? They’re bringing that album into intimate theaters and concert halls across the country. Sure, The Chicks could easily do a big arena victory lap, but Taking the Long Way deserves a room where every lyric can land. Songs like “The Long Way Around,” “Easy Silence,” “Lubbock or Leave It,” “Everybody Knows” and “Not Ready to Make Nice” were way ahead of their time. And in 2026, nearly everyone in the room will be able to relate to them in a way they couldn’t even two decades ago.
Aside from the main single and the obvious emotional undertones, the album’s legacy is massive for a reason. Taking the Long Way debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, was certified 2x Platinum, and won five Grammy Awards in 2007, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album. “Not Ready to Make Nice” also took home Record of the Year and Song of the Year, which is pretty insane for a track built around refusing to smooth over the very controversy that nearly ended their mainstream country career.
Of course, The Chicks’ catalog goes far beyond one album. Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer are country-pop pioneers in every way — paving the country-pop road with singles like “Cowboy Take Me Away,” “Wide Open Spaces,” “Goodbye Earl,” “Ready to Run” and “Travelin’ Soldier.” They’ve sold millions of records and inspired some of today’s biggest names…including Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Miranda Lambert.
The Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour is a celebration of not only the album that changed everything for them, but also The Chicks’ legacy as a whole. And we love this for them. You’ll soon get to sing along at the top of your lungs to “Not Ready to Make Nice,” because verified resale tickets are available now.
