Roxy Music 2022 Tour Announcement – 50th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Roxy Music is teaming up for their first tour in 11 years, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the famed British rock band. Join Bryan Ferry and his bandmates beginning September 7th in Toronto, ON, with ten dates before the final performance on the 28th in Los Angeles, CA.
It’s been 50 years since the band released their self-titled debut album back in the 1970s, and it was just the beginning of their legacy. The Guardian once described them as the second most influential British band of all time, only after The Beatles. Artists like Franz Ferdinand, Garbage, Duran Duran and U2, and many more have named Roxy Music as influences. And then there’s the group’s distinctive sound that’s spanned eight albums and five decades, which incorporates glam, punk, and art-rock alongside new wave for an unparalleled musical style.
“We were definitely trying to show our versatility,” says vocalist Bryan Ferry, now 76, about developing the Roxy Music sound. “I had lots of musical influences, plus what the band brought to the table.” Lead guitarist Phil Manzanera described “this Latin heritage, being born in South America,” while saxophone and oboe player Andy Mackay was classically trained. The new-wave and electronic elements came from former synthesizer Brian Eno, while drummer Paul Thompson had “very powerful, earthy drumming” reminiscent of The Velvet Underground.
Ferry, Manzanera, Mackay, and Thompson will all return to the US in fall 2022 for their first tour in over a decade, bringing the same musical versatility you know and love. It’s been 40 years since they released their final album, 1982’s Avalon, but touring demand for the British rock legends is bigger than ever!
