To say that Phish concerts are legendary would be an understatement. Throughout four decades and thousands of shows, the rock band has changed their entire setlist and demeanor with each performance – producing a one-of-a-kind concert for every night and every city. Just how dedicated is Phish to their loyal fanbase, who have been distributing live recordings (with the band’s permission) and attending Phish concerts for years? Even a global pandemic couldn’t prevent the band from putting on a show. 

On March 24th, 2020, Phish kicked off the “Dinner and a Movie” series, in which they live-streamed a Phish concert in its entirety each Tuesday night, provided a new fundraiser for an important cause, and shared a recipe for everyone to make dinner.

Whether the show was from 1992, 2009, or any year in between, fans got to take a walk down memory lane and relive legendary performances each week. All while having a virtual family-style dinner centered around youtube live chat where Trey would frequently add commentary and participate.

Some bands prefer to live in the moment, but Phish encourages every moment of nostalgia that comes with their nearly forty-year career. 

Phish songs encompass many musical genres, namely rock, funk, and psychedelic, and fans love seeing them switch up the setlist night after night. Even better, the band also performs a special show on Halloween night that has come to be known as a “musical costume.” They shed their Phish skin for one night, putting on the “costume” of another group, and play that band’s album in its entirety! 

Former musical costumes have included Talking Heads, the Who, the Beatles, David Bowie, and in 2019 it was a completely fictional band Kasvot Växt. Who will it be for Halloween 2021 in Las Vegas?

If you’ve never been to a live Phish experience, leave your judgment at the door and get ready for one of the best weekends of music of your life.

If this is your first time considering Phish, here are some recommendations for which events would be best. While a one-night show is truly dipping your toe in the water, a three-night run is when lifetime memories are made. One night at a time, though, is definitely understandable when so many other tours are happening this year, so for a one-night-only agenda, we recommend either night in Eugene, OR, or San Francisco. These are the only two venues on the main thread of the tour that are not outside; while outside with the sun setting and the stars twinkling overhead is something special, the energy of being inside at a Phish show is palpable.

Yet, if you are ready to dive headfirst into Phish, then the full weekends at the Gorge Amphitheater, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and Halloween in Vegas are going to turn you into a lifelong Phan.
