Of Montreal 2024 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Of Montreal is embarking on a US Tour in 2024! Beginning on May 31st in their home base of Athens, GA, Kevin Barnes and Co. will continue through July 2nd in Asheville, NC. Godcaster will join this Of Montreal tour as support.
Supporting their upcoming nineteenth album, Lady on the Cusp, this Of Montreal tour will be a delight to all the senses. The band is known for their unconventional onstage methods that push the boundaries of musical improvisation, gender norms, and performance art. And you’ll witness a limitless new era with Of Montreal with its one-of-a-kind blend of indie and psychedelic pop, funk, R&B and electronica.
Of Montreal has already released the first single, “Yung Hearts Bleed Free,” complete with a colorful music video that may or may not have you wondering if you’re hallucinating. How typical of the Georgia group, right? “It’s influenced by the Leos Carax film Boy Meets Girl, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, and my recent purchase of a Yamaha TG33 and a Kawai K1M,” Barnes said of the new track. “I wanted to make a strutting, sexy little vamp of a song that just kind of chugged along and felt relaxed and playful and free.”
Madeline Babuka Black, who directed the song’s music video, had her own thoughts about working with a creative genius like Kevin Barnes. “There’s a certain ’60s/experimental spirit to Barnes’ songwriting that I love and by using analog techniques of paper cut out and direct on film animation I pay homage to that. The paper cut out animations and color palette of the film were deeply inspired by Larry Jordan’s experimental animations, most notably his 1968 film Our Lady of the Sphere.”
Cinema is clearly a monumental inspiration for Of Montreal, and has been since their formation in the late 1990s. With songs like “Tim I Wish You Were Born a Girl,” “Gallery Piece,” and “The Past is A Grotesque Animal,” they’ve crafted an inimitable niche for themselves that dips into every corner of the creative world. Music, art, movies, fashion…Of Montreal has touched it all with their penchant for theatricality and gender-fluid personas.
And you’ll see it like never before on this Of Montreal tour. Performing a mix of old and new favorites from the past three decades, they’re destined to put on a dynamic show for the ages. Get your Of Montreal tickets today!
