Micky Dolenz Celebrates The Monkees Tour Announcement and Schedule
Micky Dolenz has announced a brief tour this spring in celebration of his brothers in The Monkees. The last surviving member of the group will begin performing on April 5th in Nashville, TN, and play seven cities before ending on the 16th in Madison, WI.
“I felt it was important to gather the fans and properly celebrate the lives of Davy, Mike and Peter,” Dolenz said in a statement. “People have been contacting me, requesting that I honor them in a way where the extraordinary impact of the Monkees can be properly acknowledged. We spent such a great deal of time together; they were like my brothers, and I want to share some of the great joy we had together.”
Now 76 years old, Dolenz had his bandmates and brothers by his side for over half a century. The Monkees rose to fame in the mid-1960s with their TV show of the same name, before launching into pop-rock stardom with singles like “I’m a Believer” and “Last Train to Clarksville.” The men played together on-and-off ever since, up until the deaths of Davy Jones and Peter Tork in 2012 and 2019, respectively.
Dolenz and Michael Nesmith continued on performing, even playing the final The Monkees tour together at the end of last year. Nesmith passed away at 78 in December 2021, mere weeks after the band’s farewell show in Los Angeles, CA. Fans, friends, and colleagues around the globe mourned the singer, while Dolenz was left as the last surviving member of The Monkees.
Officially called the “Micky Dolenz Celebrates The Monkees” tour, this series of shows comes straight from the heart. It’s a tribute to the friendship, love, and incredible pop-rock hits that the four men shared for many years, and it’s safe to say that there will be a few tears shed on this Micky Dolenz tour.
