Lucinda Williams is ready for the “Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets Tour” this fall! The legendary singer-songwriter is supporting her fifteenth album, Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart. She’ll begin on October 7th in Nashville, TN, continuing through the 29th in Red Bank, NJ.

Released last month, this record is one of Williams’ most personal yet. It’s her first since she suffered a stroke in 2020, which has temporarily halted her guitar-playing abilities. But she’s not losing hope, and can’t wait to sing at the top of her lungs! Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets also features a series of never-before-told anecdotes and personal tales from her 45-year career. 

Many of these songs are amplified by guest vocals from Angel Olsen, Margo Price, Buddy Miller, and the one and only Bruce Springsteen. In fact, “The Boss” provides support on one of the record’s most triumphant numbers, “New York Comeback,” which provides insight into Williams’ physical and mental health recovery after her stroke. 

“That happens with people who lose one of their senses. The other ones get stronger,” she told Rolling Stone about her increased vocal abilities. Those who saw her on the Outlaw Country Cruise in February would have to agree! The three-time Grammy winner and feminist icon belted out songs like “Can’t Let Go,” “Are You Alright,” and “Fruits of My Labor” like a dream. 

“Maybe that’s part of it,” she continued in the interview. “It frees me up to concentrate on my vocals. Everybody has been remarking on that.” These new songs allow Lucina Williams to show off her remarkable vocal range in a whole new way, taking a trip back in time to channel one of her oldest friends. “I wanted to write more rock & roll songs, à la Tom Petty,” she says, adding that she opened for Petty at his final show before his death in 2017.

 “That’s been a desire of mine, but they’re harder to write. When I sit down with my guitar, I go into ballad mode. That’s from my folk days, I guess.” Lucinda Williams has delivered an angsty mix of Americana, soul, rock, and county since the late 1970s, and we love her for it. Many believe her to be one of the greatest female artists in rock and roll, along with one of the most talented singers of our generation, period. And she definitely has the award shelf to show it. 

Her song “Passionate Kisses” made it into Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” while Lucinda Williams has also been inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame! While she’s not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame quite yet, people have been campaigning for it for years…so we have no doubts it will happen soon!
