Dance Gavin Dance 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Dance Gavin Dance is heading on tour this spring, and it’s going to be one of the best rock shows of the year! The post-hardcore outfit will kick off on April 23rd in Sacramento, CA, and continue through May 17th in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
“It brings us great pleasure to announce our upcoming tour with Memphis May Fire, Volumes, and Moon Tooth,” said drummer and founding member Matt Mingus. “We will be playing some cities we haven’t had the chance to play in a while and are surely looking forward to it. With the band being as healthy and as happy as ever, this will be a tour you won’t wanna miss!”
We can second that, as can the millions of emo kids who are ecstatic about this Dance Gavin Dance tour. They’re celebrating the release of their ninth album, Afterburner, released in 2020 and long overdue for a proper run of shows. This record marked a new chapter for the band, infusing their typical progressive and experimental rock sound with funk, metalcore, rap, and even Latin hints.
People liked what they heard with Afterburner. The album peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums list, a first for Dance Gavin Dance, while critics applauded the group’s musical transition. Kill Your Stereo wrote that the new music was “intricate, catchy, emotional and deceptively complex,” while Scene Daddy wrote that Afterburner was “the best record of Dance Gavin Dance’s career.”
Most longtime fans wouldn’t have imagined that they’d hear Dance Gavin Dance do a Latin-infused number after years of watching them on the main stage at Warped Tour, nor did the band see this direction for themselves when forming in 2005. But a lot of crazy things happened in 2020, and Dance Gavin Dance is joining on the fun with new tracks like “Prisoner,” “Strawberry’s Wake,” and “Lyrics Lie.”
