“The sun will come out tomorrow!” Annie debuted this show-stopping song nearly half a century ago, and it’s since become a musical theater staple. How can one deny the incredible optimism, courage, and charisma of the fiery-haired orphan? Annie first debuted on Broadway in the late 1970s and won multiple Tony Awards, including “Best Musical.” Despite leaving New York City many years ago, these performances are taking place all over the country in 2024. Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, Annie tells the tale of a valiant and determined orphan, whose fiery red hair is almost as eyebrow-raising as her infectious spirit. Her journey from the harsh confines of the orphanage to the luxurious home of billionaire Oliver Warbucks is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you laughing, crying, and cheering for the triumph of hope over adversity.
Not to mention, clapping along the way for one of many brilliant musical numbers that Annie has produced. While “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life” are arguably the most famous tracks, there are also so many more to explore! From “Maybe” and “N.Y.C.” to “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” and “Something Was Missing,” these songs complement the story in a majestic manner.
