ZZ Top 2022 Tour Announcement – Raw Whiskey Tour Schedule
ZZ Top is back on the road and ready to rock, and you need to see the musical legends with the long beards and humorous lyrics. The rock group has announced a US tour to accompany their upcoming album, Raw – beginning May 6th in Niagara Falls, ON, and continuing through August 27th in Beaver Dam, KY.
Right off the heels of their 50th Anniversary trek in 2021, this ZZ Top tour (dubbed “Raw Whiskey”) is going to be a surreal experience for any classic rock fan. Raw marks their first new album in years and is described as the soundtrack to the 2019 Netflix documentary, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas. It features live recordings from their performance at Gruene Hall, one of their favorite venues in their hometown state, and all your favorite blues-rock classics that have made ZZ Top into rock and roll icons.
You may know a few tunes that we’re talking about, like “La Grange,” “Thunderbird,” “Brown Sugar” and “Blue Jean Blues.” It was a joyous occasion for these musicians to come together at such a sentimental venue, which Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard have openly gushed about.
“It was, in a very real way, a return to our roots. Just us and the music, no audience of thousands, no concession stands, no parking lot social hour, no phalanx of tour busses,” Gibbons said in the album’s liner notes. “It was as bare bones as when we first started touring in a behemoth Chrysler station wagon [in 1970], driving vast stretches between those early far-flung shows under blackened Texas skies and first hearing our records on the radio. We were bonded as brothers.”
This positive energy is infectious from Gibbs, even with the band’s recent heartbreak. Bassist and original member Dusty Hill passed away unexpectedly in summer 2021, shortly after the group kicked off their 50th Anniversary tour. While they continued to tour with a replacement, nobody could ever replace the legendary bearded and burly man. He served as the backbone to the best ZZ Top concerts and albums, and Raw is being released this summer in his honor.
“‘The Dust’ may have left the building but he’s still very much with us,” Gibbons said. Everybody from Paul Stanley and Ozzy Osborne to the Allman Brothers Band expressed their condolences over Hill’s death, while the fans can’t wait to show their respect on this ZZ Top tour. What better way to do it than with a tribute to his iconic bass lines over the best blues-rock hits? The ZZ Top tour is a bittersweet experience that any rock enthusiast will appreciate, and you can get your tickets now!
