Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back and better than ever in 2023! Joined by The Faint and Perfume Genius, the alternative rock darlings will kick off on May 3rd in Washington, DC, continuing for over a month before concluding on June 10th in Berkeley, CA.
Fresh off their two Grammy nominations for their fifth and latest album, 2022’s Cool It Down, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are on a roll. Their first album in nine years earned critical acclaim, with fans and critics falling in love with new tracks like “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” and “Burning.” Now that they’ve rightfully returned to their alt-rock throne and reminded people that they never really went anyway (hiatus, where?), it’s time for a Yeah Yeah Yeahs tour that brings old and new fans together in harmony.
We can’t wait to see Karen O’s dynamic stage presence, Nick Zinner’s blazing guitar solos, and Brian Chase’s thundering drum solos for the first time in years. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been renowned for their live performances since forming in New York City in 2000, and they’ve only gotten better and bolder with time. Karen O is commonly referred to as one of the most talented and boundary-breaking women in rock and roll, while songs like “Maps,” “Heads Will Roll,” and “Gold Lion” served as millennial anthems that will never go out of style.
These tracks may not live on our MySpace profiles anymore, like in the mid-2000s, but they are played in some of the country’s best venues. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are known for their cutting-edge visuals and detailed stage backdrops, so these shows will be a feast for the ears and eyes. Speaking of which, have you seen their new “Blacktop” music video? It keeps with the band’s theme of thought-provoking imagery and simple-but-surreal sound, and frontwoman Karen O has even spoken up about the song’s impact on her.
“Blacktop” stuck out to me early on; the demo was very stripped down instrumentally and emotionally,” says Karen O, “It was a step towards what radical closeness feels like after a long separation.” “It felt right to keep the video as stripped down and, dare I say beautiful in its naïveté,” she continues, “David Black put us in front of his 70s analog video camera with the intention to pull stills for band shots.” “He had me sing to “Blacktop” before I had even memorized the lyrics, I thought I knew the song by heart but it felt like an introduction, like meeting it for the first time.”
“It wasn’t intended to end up as a video and as a return to the earliest visuals from the record it completes a circle,” she concludes, “We’re so happy we have it, a simple layered performance for a deceptively simple song.” Simple isn’t always negative, as Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been proving for over two decades. Prepare to have your mind blown by old and new alternative rock, art pop, and post-punk hits at these shows, with tickets available now!
