Thrice 2023 Tour Announcement – The Artist in The Ambulance 20th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Thrice is heading on its “The Artist in The Ambulance 20th Anniversary tour” in spring and summer of 2023. The post-hardcore heroes can’t wait to celebrate two decades of their critically-acclaimed third album! They’ll kick off these Thrice concerts on May 18th in San Diego, CA, continuing for over a month before finishing up on June 24th in Anaheim, CA.
Can you believe it’s been twenty years since The Artist in the Ambulance made its mark on the alternative rock scene? Thrice will be playing the album in its entirety, including standout tracks like “All That’s Left,” “Under a Killing Moon,” “Stare at the Sun,” and more. While they’ve released all kinds of alt-rock bangers over the years, they’ll always have a special bond with their third album… and it’s not just because of their band name. How do we know? The group just put out a re-recorded version of The Artist in the Ambulance, with guest appearances from members of Manchester Orchestra, Architects, and Holy Fawn (who’s touring with them)!
“The question has to be asked: Why would we re-record a 20-year-old album, let alone one that is widely beloved and arguably our most well-known?” says Thrice vocalist Dustin Kensrue. “I think the core of the answer is that it simply sounded fun, and we were curious.” “We know that playing the revisionist is a dangerous game, so we were always a little uneasy about trying to go back and mess with something that people loved,” he continued, “People who had none of the hangups about the record that we did.” “But, since we decided to do this anyway, we tried to let that wariness guide us in how we approached the record, and in the end, we decided to make very minimal structural changes.”
The re-recorded version is simply a modernized take on the masterpiece that is The Artist in the Ambulance, and fans have no qualms with it. For those who weren’t around in 2003, this record was a seriously big deal for Thrice. It helped them establish their signature melodic punk sound, which later developed into more post-hardcore and experimental rock, and peaked at No.16 on the Billboard 200. Essentially, it set all kinds of milestones and records for the Southern California rock band, and helped them build up a fanbase that continues to support them two decades later.
Thrice has accomplished a great deal since they released The Artist in the Ambulance in 2003. They’ve continued to make quality hits and came out with their latest album of new tunes, Horizons/East, in 2021, in addition to being role models for dozens of bands in the alternative rock scene. While you’re waiting to see them at the When We Were Young Festival in October, why not celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of their best albums on this Thrice tour? Get your tickets today!
