Lake Street Dive 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Lake Street Dive is back on the road for late summer and fall 2022! The folk and indie group will kick off on August 2nd in Fargo, ND, and make dozens of stops before concluding on October 14th in Oakland, CA.
The schedule of this Lake Street Dive tour may give listeners a little deja vu, as the dates are nearly identical to last year’s trek. Do they love the folksy and breezy vibe that autumn brings to their concerts, or can they not wait to perform again in honor of their new EP? Our guess is both. They’re continuing to support their seventh record, 2021’s Obviously, along with the six-song EP, Fun Machine: The Sequel, from July 2022.
The EP is a far cry from Obviously, the latter of which focused on heavy topics like climate change, failed relationships, and female empowerment. How can you have a “fun machine” when so much is happening worldwide? That’s precisely why Lake Street Dive wanted to release these six cover songs, to bring a bit of light even into the darkest times.
“Imagine you walk into your favorite local dive bar, and Lake Street Dive is on stage, doing our regular weekly gig for $5 a head,” the band said in a statement. “These are the songs we’d be covering there and how we’d be playing them. Some deep cuts, some sentimental favorites, and some (hopefully) epic crowd pleasers.” Songs covered by Lake Street Dive on this EP include “Automatic” by The Pointer Sisters, “Anyone Who Had a Heart” by Dionne Warwick, “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain and more. While typically known for their indie-folk choruses, Lake Street Dive clearly has an appreciation for every genre, and it’s a bit of a breather before they dive into their next full-length album.
