John Mellencamp 2022 Tour Announcement – Live and In Person Tour Schedule
John Mellencamp is heading on the “Live and In Person tour” in 2023, and it’s a grand time to see the hero of heartland rock! He’ll kick off on February 5th in Bloomington, IN, making dozens of stops before wrapping up on June 13th in Albany, NY.
This John Mellencamp tour was announced the same day as the unveiling of his new permanent exhibition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, called “Legends of Rock: John Mellencamp.” That’s (as the kids say) a serious flex. He’s earned his icon status in the rock universe, particularly the heartland rock subgenre he’s made his own. You may have heard the string of hits he’s released since the late 1970s, including “Hurts So Good,” “Jack & Diane,” “Crumblin’ Down,” and “Pink Houses,” all of which he’ll be playing on this John Mellencamp tour.
There’s also his latest album, Strictly a One-Eyed Jack, released in January 2022 with excellent reviews. It features singles like “Wasted Days,” a duet with Bruce Springsteen, plus “Chasing Rainbows” and “Did You Say Such A Thing,” which put forward Mellencamp’s signature blend of hard, folk, and roots rock while also showing off how much he’s grown over the years. He’s 71 years old and has seen a few things in his time, including a global pandemic and more, and he lays it all out there on one of his most honest albums to date.
Maybe Mellencamp is even a little too honest on Strictly a One-Eyed Jack, but it somehow always works in his favor. Rolling Stone calls him “compellingly cranky” in their album review before stating that “Mellencamp has made an urgent-feeling, musically rich record, one of his most memorable in a while. Whether life has much left to give him is his call to make, but he still has plenty to offer us.” Meanwhile, PopMatters gave the record eight stars and described it as “cohesively designed and beautifully articulated performances and arrangements from an artist whose tough swagger always belied a pained vulnerability.”
In short, Mellencamp is a tough guy with a big heart that shows loud and proud through his music, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. See the roots-rock icon in dozens of cities on the John Mellencamp tour, with tickets available now!
