Franz Ferdinand 2022 Tour Announcement – Hits to the Head Tour Schedule
Franz Ferdinand is touring for the first time in four years, and it’s going to be quite the party with the Scottish post-punk pioneers. They’ll kick off the trek on August 4th in Dallas, TX, and make 20 stops before the final show in Oakland, CA, on the 30th.
This Franz Ferdinand tour is dubbed the “Hits to the Head” trek, named for the greatest hits album they released in early 2022. It features all your favorite tracks by the indie-rock gurus, including “Outsiders,” “This Fire,” and their signature song “Take Me Out.” Did you just start humming the unbelievably catchy chorus of that last hit, which lived on KROQ and other rock radio stations in the 2000s? Us too. And this is one of the biggest reasons the band selected it for their latest record.
“It was easy,” frontman Alex Kapranos told Consequence about picking tracks for Hits to the Head. “It’s all hits. It’s the bangers! I felt like, ‘Would I play the song if I was headlining a festival?’ If yes, then it went on. It’s not necessarily my personal favorites, even. It’s the songs that have universal appeal.” Indeed, these songs have served as the basis for Grammy nominations, MTV-approved music videos, and frequent radio play since the formation of Franz Ferdinand in 2001. And they’re celebrating two decades of post-punk bangers with the Hits to the Head tour.
The greatest hits album also features one new track, “Curious,” which Kapranos wrote while stranded in France amid the pandemic. Talk about putting a modern spin on a celebration of the past. He describes the song as “that moment you’re falling in love with somebody and imagining a flash-forward to all the things that may happen.” At the same time, the music video has vivid neon lights and vivacious dances that remind you why you fell in love with Franz Ferdinand in the 2000s.
The singer also hinted that the band was currently working on new music, which is great news for longtime fans. They haven’t released a Franz Ferdinand album since 2018’s Always Ascending, and the Hits to the Head tour will be a celebration of hit songs, both old and new.
