Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service 2023 Tour Announcement – 20th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service have announced a co-headlining tour next year, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their respective albums. Catch the groups beginning September 8th in Portland, ME, making 17 stops before concluding on October 13th in Los Angeles, CA.
“I know for a fact I will never have a year again like 2003,” says Ben Gibbard. “The Postal Service record came out, ‘Transatlanticism’ came out. These two records will be on my tombstone, and I’m totally fine with that. I’ve never had a more creatively inspired year.” The first thing to know is that Gibbard is the frontman of both bands and will be pulling double duty on this trek. Don’t worry about him getting stressed, as he can 100% do it every night. He managed to release two standout albums in the same year from his two bands, which not just any artist can do, and he wants to give each one the love they deserve.
While The Postal Service only released one album, Give Up, it was all they needed to become a household name in the indie rock scene. Songs like “Such Great Heights” and “We Will Become Silhouettes” instantly became concert essentials and go-to songs for people’s MySpace profiles and proved to be a highly successful collaboration between Gibbard and his collaborators. We can’t forget about 2000s musical heroes like Jenny Lewis or Jimmy Tamborello! Gibbard is going back to his roots, before Zoom calls or TikTok, to perform every song on Give Up from front front-to-back, with a little help from his indie rock roots.
Gibbard is, first and foremost, the frontman of Death Cab for Cutie, which he began in 1997 and used as a platform for millions of indie rock fans. He’s released ten albums, the most recent being 2022’s Asphalt Meadows, but will always have a special place in his heart for 2003’s Transatlanticism. You’ll hear the whole album on this tour, including singles like “The New Year,” “The Sound of Settling,” and “Title and Registration,” plus more from Gibbard’s storied career. Are you ready for a mix of electronic pop, indie rock, and everything in between? Get your tickets to see Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service today.
