Belle and Sebastian 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Belle and Sebastian have extended their latest tour into spring 2023, and it’s a grand time to see the Scottish indie-pop darlings! They’ll kick off on April 28th in Milwaukee, WI, and make stops in Toronto, ON, New Haven, CT, Atlanta, GA, and more before concluding on May 19th in Kalamazoo, MI.
This Belle and Sebastian tour will continue to support their eleventh studio album, A Bit of Previous, which was released in May 2022. They’ve had a blast playing new songs like “Young and Stupid” and “Talk to Me, Talk to Me” across dozens of US cities this year, and they’re not quite ready for it to be over. Can you blame them? It’s their first album of all-new songs in seven years, after all! It was recorded in their hometown of Glasgow and helped the group find a sense of togetherness in the trenches of quarantine.
“We did it together, us and the city,” singer Stuart Murdoch wrote in the album’s liner notes. “This record was the first ‘full’ LP recording for B&S in Glasgow since Fold Your Hands Child, 1999. We clocked in every morning, we played our songs, we wrote together, we tried new things, we took the proverbial lump of clay, and we threw it every day.” Critics praised the indie pop album for its familiar yet still surprising themes, providing the same indie pop that we’ve loved from Belle and Sebastian since 1996 with an added dose of isolation. Which, for the record, wasn’t always a bad thing during the songwriting process.
NME gave A Bit of Previous a four-star review while calling it “their most vivid songwriting in years.” The publication also added that “all of the well-worn Belle and Sebastian hallmarks are present, but what’s truly impressive is how effortless it all sounds this time around.” For the record, we couldn’t agree more. This was the first album in over two decades they’ve recorded in their home of Scotland, the last being 2000’s Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant, and the result is magnificent.
