Modest Mouse is celebrating a quarter-century of their sophomore effort with “The Lonesome Crowded West 25th Anniversary tour!” The indie rock group will kick off on November 18th in Missoula, MT, and make stops in Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, and more before concluding on December 17th in New York, NY.
Fans were excited enough last year when the band released their seventh record, The Golden Casket, which marked their first new album in six years and a long-awaited Modest Mouse tour. But now things are only getting bigger, better, and weirder as Modest Mouse turns back time to celebrate their beloved sophomore effort. The Lonesome Crowded West was the beginning of Modest Mouse as we know it, packed with indie-rock hits that are equally wondrous and weird.
Featuring “Cowboy Dan,” “Doin’ the Cockroach,” “Trucker’s Atlas,” and more, these songs have been a part of nearly every Modest Mouse concert since 1997. Of course, they’re doing things a bit differently this time around. This trek will take place in much smaller venues for a more intimate setting, while Isaac Brock and his bandmates will play the record in its entirety. We’re talking front to back with no skips, which is something that even the oldest Modest Mouse fans have never seen before.
Technically, Modest Mouse didn’t become “mainstream” until the 2000s, or more specifically until their fourth album, Good News For People Who Love Bad News. While that was the record where they became a household name and singles like “Float On” and “The World at Large” took over KROQ, most fans will always hold their sophomore album very dear. The Lonesome Crowded West is a solid indie rock record that many publications referred to as one of the greatest albums of the 1990s, and they’ll never forget where they came from.
