The Lehman Trilogy, in Theater – 2022 Performance Schedule
Three hours. Three centuries. Three incredible actors. It’s the lucky number in a play where a few not-so-lucky things happen. The Lehman Trilogy is the multigenerational tale of how three immigrant brothers achieved the American dream and how it all came crashing down nearly 200 years later in the financial crisis of 2008.
The Lehman Trilogy is playing in two major California cities in spring 2022. You can see it in Los Angeles, CA, from March 3 through April 10, along with a stint in San Francisco from April 20 through May 22.
Told in three parts, the story begins with three German immigrant brothers who open up a general store in Alabama specializing in cotton goods. As they start to gain success and move to New York, things get more complicated as the play travels from the roaring ’20s to the Great Depression into the postwar boom of acquisition, making the cotton goods the brothers specialized in basically abstract.
However, they soon became finance guys and opened Lehman Brothers Holdings… one of the largest investment banks in the US, until the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2008. The Lehman Trilogy takes you through the decades as the business reaches crazy highs and extreme lows while keeping up with corporate America.
It’s hard to choose what exactly makes The Lehman Trilogy so popular. Maybe it’s the ultra-modern set design featuring a rotating, glass-walled cubicle… depicting an office not too different from the one you’re probably reading this from. Or perhaps it’s the fact that the three main actors play their ancestors in various roles, Hamilton style, although they never actually change costumes.
But more than anything… the show reminds you that all the cliches are true. All good things must come to an end, bad things can happen to good people, and sometimes it takes a good fall to know where you stand.
