Have you heard about Plaza Suite? It’s a play that’s made for New Yorkers, and it’s heading to the Big Apple in spring 2022 with one of your favorite celebrity couples. Catch Neil Simon’s famous comedy play at the Hudson Theater from February 25th through June 17th, starring megastars, and real-life married couple, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Plaza Suite is comprised of three acts, all featuring unique characters and stories but one setting. The location? Suite 719 in New York City’s Plaza Hotel, and you can watch as Broderick and Parker slip into various roles. These include a married couple trying to rekindle their spark, former lovers trying to resist the Hollywood urge to seduce, and parents trying to convince their daughter that she needs to unlock the bathroom door and attend her own wedding day. A lot can happen in a hotel as old and iconic as the Plaza, and that’s the basis behind this comical play.
Plaza Suite has been a hit since it first premiered on Broadway in 1968 – winning several Tonys, inspiring a 1987 TV movie starring Carol Burnett, and touring the country. But it’s been a hot minute since Neil Simon’s show returned to the city where it all began, and the special occasion called for a certain level of star power. That’s where Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker come in.
You already know that the married couple has an undeniable amount of chemistry in their personal and professional lives, along with a deep appreciation for New York City. Broderick was born and raised in Manhattan, while his wife spent a good deal of her career filming Sex and the City in the Big Apple. The couple is well aware of the crazy things that happen in NYC, even in one hotel suite, and they’re bringing the drama to life in one of the most anticipated Broadway plays of 2022.
