Mary Poppins in Theater, 2022-2023 Performance Schedule
Plenty of magical live musicals are playing in 2022, but it’s safe to say that Mary Poppins takes the cake. The British vanilla sponge cake, that is. The show based on the beloved Disney classic has everything the entire family could want — from otherworldly adventures and animated dance numbers to realistic family dynamics. Even if you’ve seen both the 1964 film with Julie Andrews and the 2018 project with Emily Blunt, it doesn’t compare to seeing the famed British nanny onstage.
Mary Poppins premiered on Broadway in 2006 and ran for seven years, winning a Tony for “Best Scenic Design in a Musical” along the way. Since closing in 2013, it’s become a fan favorite for high school plays and community theater productions, but it’s also hitting several larger stages in 2022. You can see the show beginning August 2nd in Ivins, UT, with stops in Vista, CA, Grand Rapids, MI, Houston, TX, and Fort Lauderdale, FL, throughout the upcoming months.
The story of the Banks family is one that’s been told for the better part of a century. When Jane and Michael receive word from their uptight and mostly-absent parents that they’re getting a new nanny… they’re not exactly thrilled. But that all changes when Mary Poppins shows up. The magical babysitter with the bottomless bag, flying umbrella, and delightful singing voice takes them on adventures beyond their wildest dreams… and it only gets crazier when her friend Bert shows up.
The kids dance and sing their way into another dimension as they simultaneously deal with family drama. Their father’s financial issues and their parent’s emotional barriers are a tough pill to swallow but luckily, tracks like “A Spoonful of Sugar” help them through it. Along with “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Jolly Holiday,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” of course. You’ll hear all your childhood favorites come to life on stage with Mary Poppins, and you simply need tickets for this magnificent musical!
