Yes 2022 Tour Announcement – Close to the Edge 50th Anniversary Tour Schedule
Yes has announced their “Close to the Edge 50th Anniversary tour” for fall 2022, taking the Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductees to 28 cities. They’ll kick off on October 7th in Glenside, PA, with stops in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Houston, TX, El Cajon, CA, and more before concluding on November 19th in Westbury, NY.
Can you believe that it’s been half a century since prog-rock pioneers Yes released one of their most influential albums? Close to the Edge was their fifth record and arguably the one that helped launch them into their current level of mainstream success. Songs like “And You and I,” “Siberian Khatru,” and the titular track became staples in their Yes concert setlist and a crucial part of their legacy. They’ve released over a dozen more albums over the past five decades, the latest being 2021’s The Quest, but will always have a place in their hearts for Close to the Edge. That’s why they’re giving it the attention it deserves on this 50th anniversary Yes tour.
Just how big of a deal is this Yes tour and album anniversary? It garnered a cover story in Guitar Player magazine, in which Steve Howe detailed the songwriting process and impact of Close to the Edge. “We were young, enthusiastic, and adventurous, and we had this incredible breakthrough success with ‘Fragile‘,” Howe told the publication. “We saw our next album as a real opportunity to prove our worth as a band. The door had been opened, and we weren’t going to go backward. We wanted to sharpen our skills as far as writing and arranging.”
It’s safe to say that Yes achieved all that and so much more, as they’ve come quite a long way In the last fifty years. They’ve earned a reputation as progressive rock pioneers that have inspired countless modern artists, including The Mars Volta and Tool, and sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. You can expect to hear all your favorite tracks off Close to the Edge on this Yes tour, and maybe even more modern songs like “Love Will Find a Way,” “Tempus Fugit,” “Leave It,” and “The Ice Bridge.” It’s going to be a spectacular night with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, and you shouldn’t wait to get your tickets!
