Wilco 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Wilco is continuing to tour in support of their twelfth album, Cruel Country, and the jam band can’t wait to see you in the crowd! They’ll kick off March 23rd with a three-night event in their home base of Chicago, IL, making stops in Port Chester, NY, Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL, and more before concluding on April 30th in Athens, OH.
Cruel Country saw Wilco leaning into their reputation as a “country band” (hint: they’re not) for the first time, and it produced something spectacular! Have you heard new songs like “Falling Apart (Right Now)” and “Tired of Taking It Out on You?” They’re peak heartland and bring a little Nashville into Wilco’s Chicago roots, and we’re here for it. Cruel Country was named one of the best albums of 2022 by Mojo, Rolling Stone, and Uncut, while The New York Times called it an “understated magnum opus.” Basically, 2022 wasn’t too shabby for Jeff Tweedy and his bandmates, and they’re excited to bring more country realness into the new year.
What inspired them to take a break from the alternative rock they’ve recorded for nearly three decades and embrace their flawed reputation as a country band? Tweedy explained it pretty well in an online letter prior to the release of Cruel Country in May 2022. “I think there’s been an assumption over the years that Wilco is some sort of country band,” he wrote, “There’s a lot of evidence to support that way of thinking about our band because there have been elements of country music in everything we’ve ever done.”
“But to be honest, we’ve never been particularly comfortable with accepting that definition of the music we make,” he continued, “With this album, though, I’ll tell you what, Wilco is digging in and calling it country.” He wasn’t kidding with these new songs, which wowed both rock and country fans all through last year at headlining shows and music festivals. But don’t worry; they’ll be sure to throw in some older hits like “Jesus, Etc.,” “Poor Places,” and “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart!” Whichever era they’re in, you know you’re always guaranteed a grand show on a Wilco tour, and you can’t wait to get your tickets for the rock-meets-country heroes!
