Weird Al Yankovic 2022 Tour Announcement – Ill-Advised Vanity Tour Schedule
Parody genius, big personality, and one of the most popular tours of 2022? You guessed it: we’re talking about Weird Al Yankovic. The comedy-centric performer recently announced dates for his massive Ill-Advised Vanity tour, beginning April 26th in Poughkeepsie, NY, and continuing for a whopping 133 shows before ending on October 29th in New York NY.
This Weird Al tour will be a continuation of his “Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour,” which ran in 2018 and served as a life-changing trek for the musical-comedy connoisseur.
That’s saying quite a bit, as he’s played thousands of concerts since rising to popularity in the 1970s! The 2018 tour featured a toned-down atmosphere with no props, video screens, or costumes, a first for Weird Al, and he’s ready to return to a casual environment with his longtime fans.
“I’ve loved doing every single incarnation of my live show, but honestly the Vanity tour is the most fun I’ve ever had on stage,” Yankovic said in a statement. “So I’ve been dying to get back out there and torture everybody with it once again!”
“Torture” is a strong word, but it’s definitely an adjustment to see a Weird Al concert without his trademark parodies. The 62-year-old has built his four-decade career, and fourteen studio albums, upon comedic takes of popular songs. His biggest singles include “Fat,” based on Michael Jackson’s “Bad,” “White & Nerdy,” parodying “Ridin” by Chamillionaire, and “Like a Surgeon” with elements of the original by Madonna.
However, Weird Al Yankovic isn’t just a comedian but also a talented performer, and he loves reminding his fans of this fact with a stripped-down, accordion-clad set. He won’t be changing into a fat suit for his Michael Jackson parody on the Ill-Advised vanity tour but singing original tunes with his band that celebrates the return of live music and his epic career. According to the Weird Al tour press release, these original songs have “largely escaped the pop culture radar but are adored by his longtime fans.”
Indeed, longtime supporters of Weird Al may have a few tracks that they’re hoping to hear on the Ill-Advised Vanity Tour. These include “Jackson Park Express,” “Dog Seat Dog,” You Don’t Love Me Anymore,” and “Nature Trail to Hell,” along with the occasional cover like Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” And even if you’re a newer Yankovic fan, you’re destined to enjoy this kickback of a comedy icon as he shows his musical prowess.
Tickets for the Ill-Advised Vanity Tour go on sale on December 10th, and they’re going to sell out quickly! Check the performance schedule below and get ready to see Weird Al as you’ve never seen him before.
