Weezer 2024 Tour Announcement – Voyage To The Blue Planet Tour Schedule
Weezer has announced the “Voyage To The Blue Planet Tour,” a 30-year celebration of their self-titled debut! Joined by The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr., these Weezer concerts will kick off on September 4th in Saint Paul, MN. They’ll stop in cities like Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Dallas, TX, and more before concluding on October 11th in Los Angeles, CA.
Forever cemented in the minds of super fans as “Blue Album,” Weezer made a mark on music lovers everywhere when it was released in 1994. Why? Maybe because it features hit Weezer songs like “Buddy Holly,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Undone – The Sweater Song,” all of which remain setlist staples all these years later. Not to mention, the head-turning sound that strayed from the grunge vibes of the 1990s and steered into a never-heard-before geek rock direction.
Rivers Cuomo and his bandmates weren’t your typical rock stars, and they knew it more than anyone. Therefore, they opted to lean into their reputation as misfits and make the most of it, and the result was nothing less than stellar. The “Blue album” eventually triple-platinum and is often hailed as one of the best albums of the 1990s, with Rolling Stone even naming it as one of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.
“When it came out, Weezer’s debut was regarded as a quirky power-pop album with a couple of hit singles,” wrote the publication. “The song’s were so catchy that some indie rockers wondered if they were put together by a record company, Monkees-style. But Rivers Cuomo’s band became a major influence on a whole generation of young sad-sack punkers.”
That influence has continued as Weezer has sold more than 35 million records worldwide, won two GRAMMY Awards, and toured with everyone from Fall Out Boy and Green Day to Smashing Pumpkins. The Los Angeles-based band will give their debut the love it deserves on the 2024 Weezer tour, playing the Blue album in its entirety. Alongside modern favorites like “Beverly Hills,” “Island In The Sun,” and “Happy Together,” of course.
All that being said, this Weezer tour will be a mind-blowing adventure filled with geek rock, grand revivals, and more nostalgia than you ever could have imagined. And there’s still plenty to look forward to before the fall! The group will make an appearance at Shaky Knees Festival on May 3rd in Atlanta, GA, along with an exclusive show in Los Angeles this Friday with Dogstar, Keanu Reeves’ band.
