Umphrey’s McGee 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
Umphrey’s McGee is making its way across the country, and now is the time to see the modern jam band. Their next concert takes place on August 18th in Indianapolis, IN, with stops in Maryland Heights, MO, Los Angeles, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, and more before concluding on December 31st in Atlanta, GA.
The group is finishing up the last handful of dates on the summer 2022 Umphrey’s McGee tour, which they co-headlined alongside The Disco Biscuits. It’s been a super-hot summer dancing under the sun with these two jam bands, and now they’re ready to get in the mood during fall 2022. The setlist is jam-packed with fresh new hits off Umphrey’s McGee’s last two albums, both released in the past year, and they’re providing a unique show each night in true jam band style.
Their fourteenth and most recent record, Asking For a Friend, was only released in June 2022, and the band has stated that it’s unlike any they’ve done before. Don’t get us wrong, there will be plenty of the progressive rock, funk, and jazz fusions you’ve loved since the late 1990s, but they were extra cautious about every track. Not to give too much away… but you can expect more vocal melodies and old-new vibes from these recovered songs on the upcoming Umphrey’s McGee tour.
“Having all this time with the pandemic, we were able to go back and just literally take years on these songs and find all the little holes and things that we needed to create something else and fill those spaces with melodies that would stick,” keyboardist Joel Cummins told Live For Live Music. “And so I’m just incredibly proud of everything we produced here.” “There was just no rush for us to put it out. We didn’t know really when we were going to be touring full time again,” he admitted before expanding more on the recording process during the pandemic.
“There’s usually kind of the ambiguous push to get things done. And with this, it was just a little more laid back, and we were able to take our time and enjoy letting these songs kind of rest and then going and revisiting them. So I think that really helped the songs in the end.” Relaxation is the key to many issues, including songwriting!
