The Smile 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
The Smile is soon to embark on its first-ever US tour, and you’ll have a grand time with the art-rock supergroup. These performances begin on November 14th in Providence, RI, and continue through December 21st in Los Angeles, CA.
The Smile only debuted last year, but you’re already familiar with its members. Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, plus Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, were hard at work on this side project during the pandemic. They wrote songs, practiced performances, and prepared to put their work on display as soon as the world reopened. That’s exactly what they did with a string of smaller performances and the release of their debut album, A Light for Attracting Attention, in May 2022. And now they’re finally ready for the inaugural The Smile tour across the country.
Despite belonging to the same alternative and art rock genres, don’t be tricked into thinking that The Smile is Radiohead 2.0. Yorke and Greenwood put an experimental spin on these songs like you’ve never heard before, with added angst powered by the pandemic.“The album reflects Yorke’s lockdown anxieties with clever musical backdrops that never obscure the songs,” Rolling Stone wrote in their four-star album review. “As the record uncoils, you can practically hear how the songs become therapy for the musicians as they play around and work through their Covid cabin fever.”
The Smile was something beautiful born in the darkest of times, and they’re finally ready to play these songs in front of thousands of fans instead of a computer screen. Singles like “The Smoke,” “Skrting on the Surface,” “Pana-vision,” and “You Will Never Work in Television Again” are the start of something new.
