The Roots Tour Announcement for 2021- All the Way Live Tour Schedule
The Roots have announced dates for the All the Way Live summer 2021 tour, a mini-engagement that takes the legendary hip-hop group across the East Coast for 11 shows. Performances begin on August 12th in Brooklyn, NY, and continue for the next two weeks before wrapping up on September 5th in Chesterfield, MO.
The group has always had roots (pun intended) on the East Coast, and it makes sense that this is where they’re heading on their first post-pandemic tour. The Roots were formed in Philadelphia, PA, back in 1987, while they’ve resided in New York City as the house band on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon since 2009.
Their jazzy and eclectic musical style has served as the backdrop for countless celebrity guests and fun games on the show – including a rap battle between Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Black Thought in 2015. We’ll miss them on The Tonight Show during their tour, and drummer Questlove even gave a cheeky Twitter response to a fan who questioned the performance dates.
When asked why the All the Way Live tour had no North Carolina date, the drummer responded by saying, “I only have 14 days off! #DayJobStill.” Indeed, the Roots need to make their return to the Rockefeller Center stage where Fallon is filmed soon enough… but they’re going to have lots of fun on tour while they can.
The band’s legacy goes far beyond just talk shows, as The Roots have also released eleven studio albums and been ranked as no. 7 on ThoughtCo’s list of “25 Best Hip-Hop Groups of All-Time.” Their jazzy vibes and use of live instruments are not commonly found in hip-hop and need to be seen in concert!
