The Mavericks 2021 Tour Announcement – En Español World Tour Schedule
One of the weirdest and most wonderful country-rock groups is currently on tour, and there’s still time to see The Mavericks! You can next see the quartet on October 16th in Stateline, NV, with performances continuing through June 2022.
The Mavericks began their En Español World Tour over the summer, named for its eleventh studio album released in 2020. Like every other The Mavericks album, it combines Tex-Mex, neotraditional country, Latin, and rock elements to create a musical style that’s entirely their own. However, it also makes history as the band’s first album recorded entirely in Spanish!
Fans were saddened that the record couldn’t get a proper tour in 2020 due to the pandemic and have flocked to The Mavericks concerts over the summer in droves. You’ll see why as you enter the crowd, as these performances have become a major part of the group’s brand.
The Mavericks concerts have become legendary over the band’s three-decade career, featuring rockabilly riffs, legions of loyal fans, and the band’s signature “Sugar Skull” backdrop that pays tribute to their Mexican and Cuban roots. That last one is especially prevalent on En Español, and the group is grateful to finally play these new tunes for their fans in 2021.
“Where I’m at today in my life, I have learned how to become extremely proud of who I am and where I come from and the people that have raised me and the people that were instrumental in my life,” guitarist Eddie Perez told NPR. “And so with an opportunity like this record, I’ve got to tell you, it is really close to my heart, because I feel like it’s a full-circle moment for me to be able to welcome it into my life, into my son’s life, and into my family’s life, in terms of what it is to be a Perez.”
This sense of self is crucial to not only Perez and his bandmates but the legions of loyal fans who listen to this record and feel close to their culture. The Mavericks have been blending country, rock, and Latin for over thirty years, taking a break in 2004 before reuniting in 2012, and have never been afraid to stand out in a crowded music space.
Now they’re ready to play new Spanish-language tunes on the En Español World Tour, also infusing the classics like “Dance the Night Away” and their Grammy-winning track, “Here Comes the Rain.” Will you be seeing them in a city near you?
