Silversun Pickups 2022 Tour Announcement – Physical Thrills Tour Schedule
Another Silversun Pickups tour is coming your way, supporting the alt-rock group’s upcoming sixth album, Physical Thrills. These Silversun Pickups concerts will kick off on August 14th in Wichita, KS, and continue for 21 dates through November 18th in Nashville, TN.
The last Silversun Pickups tour took place last fall alongside Zella Day, including a couple of music festival appearances like BottleRock. After a few months off to put the final touches on Physical Thrills, they’re ready to get back on the road and share news songs with the world. They’ve already released their first single, “Scared Together,” along with a music video that Brooklyn Vegan calls “dark and absurd, pairing perfectly with the acerbic, power-chord-heavy sound of [the single].”
“You never know what can bring two people together,” the band says about “Scared Together.” “Sometimes, it’s something light and comfy. Sometimes it’s a shared love of some kind of totem or idol that is dear. Other times, it’s something a little more dreadful.” “But whatever works, I say. To each their own,” they continued. “This song is about becoming close and intimate with someone through hardship. Being thrown into something quite frightening brings out some shared qualities that connect them.”
The music video gives off plenty of Stranger Things vibes and a good dose of 80s nostalgia, yet ironically marks the perfect track for the new chapter of Silversun Pickups. The follow-up to 2019’s Widow’s Weeds had to live up to people’s standards, especially after such a tumultuous few years, and the band knew it. That’s why they put on their indie and alt-rock, plus dream pop, hats to make a record that’s both shocking and familiar to their longtime fans.
“I would sneak off and start writing these songs, and I didn’t know what they’re for because I didn’t really think about Silversun on any level,” says guitarist and singer Brian Aubert. “I was just doing it to keep myself calm and keep myself company… There were ‘dream shanties,’ gentler vocals, horror-inspired sounds, and other exciting new elements coming to mind.” Those elements come to life on “Scared Together,” and if the first single is any indication… we’re in for a scary good time with Silversun Pickups.
