Portugal. The Man is all set for a sizable Canadian trek! Supporting their ninth album, Chris Black Changed My Life, the rockers are ready for a journey of introspection and incredible performances. They’ll kick off on November 6th in Vancouver, BC, making eight stops before concluding on the 19th in Montreal, QC.
They’ll also make stops in Troutdale, OR, Morrison, CO, New York, NY, and more throughout the summer of 2023, gearing up to give Canada the show of a lifetime! These new songs have been a long time coming, resulting from both insane heartbreak and undeniable growth. Just ask frontman John Gourley, who recently opened up to Billboard, about the most personal Portugal. The Man album yet.
“Everybody has their personal things going on,” says Gourley, who has experienced loss, health issues, addiction, a global pandemic, and more since the last album, 2017’s Woodstock. “The stakes have changed. The motivation has changed. The reason I’m doing this — it has all changed. I can’t be the anxiety-ridden kid anymore. There’s this moment of adulthood and growing up or whatever it is… It’s stepping out and taking on that role in a way that I haven’t in the past.”
Portugal. The Man’s new project is named for the band’s good friend and unofficial DJ, Chris Black, who died suddenly in 2019. Every single track on Chris Black Changed My Life is a love letter to the man who held their friend group together. This includes the lead single, “Dummy,” along with more new songs like “Champ,” “Summer of Luv,” and “Thunderdome [W.T.A].” They already send us into a flurry of emotions through our AirPods, so we can’t even imagine the impact these live performances will have!
These lyrics are heartfelt and harmonious, while the beats deliver the same alternative-meets-psychedelic vibes you’ve loved from Portugal. The Man since 2004.
