Michael Franti & Spearhead 2023 Tour Announcement – Big Big Love Tour Schedule
Michael Franti & Spearhead are heading on the “Big Big Love tour” in spring 2023, and it’s an aptly-named trek for the activist and hip hop-funk-reggae icon! Franti will kick off on May 25th at the California Roots Festival in Monterey, CA, continuing for several months before concluding on August 18th in Englewood, NJ.
“SOULROCKERS – I am STOKED to announce the BIG BIG LOVE 2023 TOUR!” Franti wrote on Instagram, “I believe that we all need “big big love” in our lives, especially today.” “To me, that’s holding space for those we love closely, those we may have differences with, and for the world as a whole!” he exclaimed. “We’ll be spreading that love coast-to-coast from May to August, playing over 50 shows at some of our favorite venues across the country and some new ones too!! Our friends will join us – so show up early, and ready to dance!”

It’s what Michael Franti & Spearhead have done since their formation in the late 1980s, and this optimism has been essential ever since. Fans attended last year’s “Follow Your Heart” tour in droves, as every Michael Franti concert is fueled by positivity and the perfect funk hits. Yes, we’re talking about “Say Hey (I Love You)”, The Sound of Sunshine,” and the more recent “Good Day for a Good Day.” It’s been a while since Michael Franti & Spearhead released their eleventh and latest album, Work Hard & Be Nice, in June 2020, so we’re hoping that a new project is on the horizon!
In the meantime, they will put on a love-filled and illuminating show for all who attend in 2023. The lifelong activist Franti recently explained his rationale behind the trek name, and it will definitely warm your heart! “Big big love represents being able to hold space for the micro and the macro of love,” he explains. “Everyone has someone they love, whether it’s their child, spouse, pet, or friend. But then there’s holding space to love people of difference – people who are in the midst of war, people where there is pain and suffering.”
“You show up as love, determination, and spirit in those places where people really need a caring soul connection to help them heal,” he concludes. “That’s what big big love is: holding space for the personal and the worldly.” Franti has always held big love for others, but especially in recent years. Franti’s Stay Human film experience a few years back highlights his fellow helping humans around the world and how they assisted others in overcoming cynicism with optimism. Additionally, his 2020 record, Work Hard and Be Nice, was essentially a love letter to struggling fans and front-line workers at the height of the pandemic.
