Mat Kearney is making his way to a stage near you on “The Acoustic Trio tour,” with the soft rock-folk-hip-hop singer visiting dozens of cities. He’ll kick off on November 3rd in Charleston, SC, and continue through February 11, 2023, in Ventura, CA.
“Hold on to your saddle; it’s time for The Acoustic Trio to ride again. There is a special magic to revisiting these songs stripped down in an intimate setting,” Kearney wrote on Instagram. “Some of my favorite live moments have been playing these shows, so don’t say I didn’t warn you. The Acoustic Trio Tour is headed to a city near you.” It’s certainly quite a bit of buildup from Kearney, but he’s hardly exaggerating. Fans have had a blast listening to acoustic renditions of his most popular songs, including those from his latest album, 2021’s January Flower.
Written between an isolated retreat in Joshua Tree and his home studio, in true hipster-slash-folk singer fashion, January Flower is a new beginning for Kearney. The record sees him in “his rawest form, distilling the songwriting process and rediscovering the joy of making music,” and it’s evident when you hear the new tracks. Songs like “Powerless,” “They Don’t Know,” “Stuck in the Moment,” and “Can’t Look Back” live up to their name. They express every human emotion you can imagine over Kearney’s trademark genre-blending beats.
