Marcus King 2024 Tour Announcement – Mood Swings Tour Schedule
Do you have the blues in you? Because Marcus King sure does! The Gen Z musician will soon kick off the “Mood Swings tour” in support of his third and latest album. Beginning on May 7th in Portland, OR, he’ll stop in 30+ cities including Denver, CO, Toronto, ON, and Milwaukee, WI, before concluding on October 12th in Philadelphia, PA.
Set for release on April 5th, Mood Swings is set to route King’s career in an entirely new direction. The Rick Rubin-produced album won’t paint him purely into the blues, Americana, or Southern rock boxes. Instead, he’ll be a one-man-show with all musical genres and a myriad of hits, both covers and originals, at his fingertips. Have you heard the first single, “F*** My Life Up Again?” It’s upfront, authentic, and only a portion of the gritty and grand new Marcus King songs coming our way.
“Musically, I think it does resists some of those stereotypes that have been put on me before, but I just want people to hear it for what it is,” King told Variety about Mood Swings. “Some of those categories can be a little bit restraining, because it kind of puts you in a smaller and smaller box. I’ve always just liked to play… or I’ve always just liked to say that I’m just an American musician — and now I’m an American artist, and that’s American/Republic,” he adds, referring to Rubin’s imprint. “So it’s perfect.”
As the title suggests, Mood Swings will focus heavily on King’s mental health, including heavy subjects such as drug use and broken relationships. While we got a taste of this lyrical honesty from the GRAMMY nominee on past singles, like “Goodbye Carolina,” “Rita Is Gone,” and “Wildflowers & Wine,” the 27-year-old is now armed with more resources to see these issues in a new light. He’s taking control of his health, one lyrical lesson and personal musical anecdote at a time, and you’ll hear them all on the new Marcus King tour and album.
“I think it is more of an evolved approach, in that, on the last records that you mentioned, I was kind of self-medicating — or maybe self-medicating on top of the wrong medication,” King says. “I wasn’t doing therapy consistently and I wasn’t treating my vessel, my temple, as well as I should have been, and I was suffering as a result of my own actions and as well as chemical imbalances that I was allowing to remain unchecked. So with a lot of the songs on previous records, I touched on some of my mental health issues, but I didn’t really have the self-awareness or the tools that I needed in order to heal myself.”
Of course, Blues fans will always have a place in their hearts and music collections for King’s last two albums — 2020’s El Dorado, which made it onto the Billboard 200, and 2022’s Young Blood. However, Mood Swings will mark a new era for the young artist. He can’t wait to debut these more mature and musically diverse songs on the road, and you shouldn’t wait to get your tickets for this Marcus King tour!
