M83 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule
M83, also known as the project of Anthony Gonzalez, is debuting a new album and tour in 2023! The French electronic group will begin on April 10th in Phoenix, AZ, making stops in Austin, TX, Toronto, ON, Denver, CO, and more before finishing up on May 16th in Oakland, CA.
“I wanted this record to be very impactful live,” says Gonzalez about M83’s ninth album, Fantasy, set for release in March. “The idea was to come back with something closer to the energy of [2005’s] Before The Dawn Heals Us. The combination of guitars and synths is always in my music, but it’s maybe more present on this new record than on the previous ones.” He adds, “I wanted to be more present lyrically and vocally even if that was daunting at first. I thought if I could achieve that, this album will be more personal than those that came before.”
Almost four years after M83’s last album, 2019’s DSVII, Gonzalez was set on creating a dreamy and dance-worthy record. And if the first single, “Ocean’s Niagara,” is any indication, he’s achieved that and so much more! This song is surrounded by buzzing synths and twirling guitars that Gonzalez believes create a vision of “people running, driving fast, or riding spaceships together.” We definitely see it, especially since the only two words muttered through the track are “beyond adventure.”
Adventure is exactly what we’ll get with M83’s new record and tour, and “Ocean’s Niagara” will be ten times more surreal when performed live onstage. Plus older tracks like “Solitude,” “Midnight City,” and “My Tears Are Becoming a Sea,” of course. Can you believe that it’s been over two decades since M83 released its self-titled debut album?
