Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top 2023 Tour Announcement – Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour Schedule
Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top have announced a co-headlining trek, dubbed the “Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour!” The two Southern rock bands will begin on July 21st in West Palm Beach, FL, making stops in dozens of cities before concluding on September 17th in Camden, NJ.
Both groups recently wrapped up their own tours, with Lynyrd Skynyrd completing the “Big Wheels Keep on Turning tour” and ZZ Top playing alongside big names like Jeff Beck and Willie Nelson. Of course, they go way back and can never resist the chance to hit the road together! They’ll be celebrating their own respective milestones, with Lynyrd Skynyrd commemorating the 50th anniversary of their debut album and ZZ Top paying tribute to their late bassist Dusty Hill.
“It’s about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about,” said Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant, “There’s nothing like getting out there playing a great show with Skynyrd and seeing people love this music.” “We’re still standing, Still keeping the music going,” added guitarist Gary Rossington, “We wanted to do the guys who aren’t with us anymore proud and keep the name proud, too.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd has a lot to be proud of. They’ve sold 28 million records, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and earned a reputation as one of the best Southern rock bands of all time! But there’s no greater rush for these guys than being on stage, and you’ll have the time of your life with their greatest hits like “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” “Simple Man,” and more!
As for ZZ Top? They have a few blues-rock hits of their own for the setlist, including “La Grange,” “Thunderbird,” “Brown Sugar,” and “Blue Jean Blues.” The Texas-based band embarked on a massive 50th-anniversary tour in 2021, but you didn’t think they were done yet, did you? The famously burly-bearded, sunglass-clad band is playing these shows with their late bassist, Dusty Hill, in mind, creating a bittersweet night of beloved memories and bluesy tracks.
“‘The Dust’ may have left the building, but he’s still very much with us,” says ZZ Top guitarist and lead singer Billy Gibbons. Everybody from Paul Stanley and Ozzy Osborne to the Allman Brothers Band expressed their condolences over Hill’s death, while the fans showed their respect night after night on the band’s 50th-anniversary trek. They continue to pay tribute to their brother on the Sharp Dressed Simple Man tour, in which they join their friends in Lynyrd Skynyrd for a night of old-fashioned, flawless Southern rock.
